A difference between Autism and Autistic. After many years dealing with my son and his condition of Autism, I have come to a conclusion between these two words. I have always refused the idea to describe my son as Autistic, giving me many hours at night dealing with it, I will try to explain as simple as I can the difference between them with my own point of view.
My son Arthur is not Autistic, because he does not have a disease, like Pneumonia. He has Autism, a disorder affecting his language, communication, social interaction, behavior and cognitive aspects of his life.
He is not a disease, his condition is affecting him the way he relates to others. He is different, unique and the love of my life. I felt this morning the need to write about my feelings and explain to others a little bit about my life and the way Autism has touch my soul.

ReplyDeleteI always enjoy looking at his painting on my office wall. It's inspiring.
Arthur is surely blessed to have a fierce mum like you on his side. Yes, many people identify folks who have autism as the condition and not as a person who has a condition that is just a part of his whole personality and being. Good for you for spreading the word. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteYes...absolutely! Arthur is not defined by his condition. He is an individual just like everyone else who just happens to have autism.
