A difference between Autism and Autistic. After many years dealing with my son and his condition of Autism, I have come to a conclusion between these two words. I have always refused the idea to describe my son as Autistic, giving me many hours at night dealing with it, I will try to explain as simple as I can the difference between them with my own point of view.

My son Arthur is not Autistic, because he does not have a disease, like Pneumonia. He has Autism, a disorder affecting his language, communication, social interaction, behavior and cognitive aspects of his life.

He is not a disease, his condition is affecting him the way he relates to others. He is different, unique and the love of my life. I felt this morning the need to write about my feelings and explain to others a little bit about my life and the way Autism has touch my soul.

My First Summer Job

Arthur has mature this summer, he feels so happy and I want it to share it with all our followers and readers. First I heard that at work they will accept kids for summer, so I contacted this organization and they were giving jobs to teen for summer. Well I called and spoke to a supervisor and I mentioned Arthur's Autism, she replied that she can give one to one basis training and I could be present, great next we went to the training and Arthur was ready for work. After the first day of work this was his remark . " I am so happy mom, I knew it I can do it. "

Arthur is working a Cisi's Pizza for school credits

This is a new challenge for Arthur. He is working at a pizza place and he will get credits for High School, he is very happy, they will assign him to different duties and he can not wait until he gets to bake a pizza. Every Monday he will be working four hours until the end of this school year. The teacher was very proud of him and took a picture of him.

Next year he will begin a four year Chef program, which it will encourage his creativity in the kitchen. So far, he loves to make cakes and every week he cooks one on Sunday. Arthur is very happy because besides painting, he can also bake.

This painting is about an underwater treasury hunt. Arthur loves the ocean and he decided to collect objects. Daily he will go hunting under the ocean and one day he found a sunken ship with an huge anchor, he decided to go in to find old pieces to collect, but a very strange noise came out and suddenly the ship turned all blue, a dark black shadow was swimming deep inside from left to right. It was a great finding but Arthur decided to go back home and find help to fight the shadow on this ship.

Arthur loves to collect fossils and he dreams about findings his own items. He has plans to study to get a good job and be able to afford his own trips. He is fascinated with the way of the past and the secrets that each piece holds.

This painting is a about a great finding, Arthur the Archeologist went on a expedition to the U.S. upper states and he was digging for months, first he found a huge tooth, a good findings, so he knew after the first one, he will be able to find more of them. He kept working for months until he found a graveyard of bones, they belong to mammoth and saver tooth tigers. Now he will be able to keep lots of them and donate some to the museums.

This painting is about my neighbor's house on fire, well all started when a party and high music was heard around all the neighborhood, the music was getting higher and higher until the house could not take it any more and explode. It was cracking down with lots of fire. It was too much for the house to handle it.

This painting is about Arthur's teachers screaming for help. Well they were on a field trip with the class and suddenly a huge noise was heard from far away, when they realize what was happening, lots of dinosaurs were attacking them. All the kids run to safe, but the teachers were trying to save all the students and they did not have time to run to a save place, they have to jump on top of a tree, of course they need help now. Who will save them?

This painting is about a cyclops that was living on a far away land, a beautiful and peaceful place, until one day, one of the villages boy found a bird with a note on his leg, the boy found a map to a hidden treasure on a far away land. Well he prepared an expedition with people on the village and departed to the treasure land. To his surprise after searching for days, they found the treasure and his owner a Cyclops and of course she will not let the strangers take away his beautiful gold and shinny stones.

This painting is about a great disaster when a meteor came into Earth and fall on two express way. Arthur's teacher was going to class when I-95 was cut in half, you can see her black car on on side, she is doing fine, but unable to get to the class. Understanding and Accepting Autism

Today I want it to talk about Arthur and his Autism. The moment I was told about his condition, it was a chocking News, because at birth I imagined him as an engineer. My worse time was accepting the facts and understand, it was the only way to help Arthur, I had to learn to deal with my emotions, I had to face Autism, otherwise I will be living on denial.

I sat for hours, cry a lot, made plans to deal with it. Well it was not very complicated, I only had enough strength to give it to God and offer him my sufferings and letting him guide me through the entire journey. One morning after waking up, I decided to take a day at a time and with God's help I will be able to walk this path.

Years passed by and I have to remind myself everyday that I should never compare my son with other kids. I have to focus on his daily improvements, no matter how small they may seem to be. I worked very intense to learn about his world and learned to be part of it. It was difficult, because most of them, make not sense to me. Also I have to find a way of teaching him about my world so we could share them together. After years trying and working with Arthur, art came to our world and we could share them together. I have learned about his needs and how sometimes environment make him overwhelmed, why repeating movements or stories make him excited.

It is a different world, there is not envy, no lies, no resentment. he is naive and love sameness, he can entertain himself , he loves a simple life, fashion is not an important issue. Well, I feel very happy to have a very special son named Arthur.

Arthur felt freedom using his new camera, his first time feeling independent . He wants to improve in taking pictures and he was wondering off in the park, of course I was watching him like a hawk. Supervision is necessary due to his Autism, Usually at school, he has supervision, so walking around the park and taking pictures, gave him this wonderful feeling of doing it by himself. He was so proud at the end of the day, he was jumping and telling me that he wants to do it more often. I hope you can enjoy his new hobby.

Arthur's world is full of imagination, he creates adventures on a daily bases . At the beginning he started telling stories and usually they got him in trouble at school, so he decided to put it down on paper and he got away with it. Well it worked for him, because his behavior improve for the better. Every painting has a story that take you on an adventure. It is a vision on a wild journey with no rules and no directions. Art has giving him a way of expressing his feelings the way he perceive the world around him.

Below It is the story of the above painting.

This painting is about a volcano erupting and suddenly the sky was changing to a red color, all the rivers were evaporating and after a few days lots of little volcanoes were borned. It was so hot that the air will burn the trees. Earth needed the eruption to let the steam out. It is a natural way Earth will survive.

Thanks to all my followers and readers to support my son and me on this journey. Lets go back and begin how this idea came about: I remember one day sitting at the doctor's office and usually Arthur's will draw to make the waiting time more enjoyable, one afternoon his therapist came out and ask Arthur to give one of his drawing for her to frame it, to display it at her office and other children could enjoy them, she also gave me the idea to do something with his art.

Well, after a while a few ideas came about it. First to enroll him on art, but I decided to test his art on eBay, at the time I was selling and buying a few things. I remembered that on that first week a teacher bought all his drawings to display it at his school. Arthur was so happy that he was encouraged to keep on drawing, after the teacher a painter came and bought them and them collectors all over the world. Right now we opened a store at Etsy but I still sell on eBay.

Now going back to Myspace, the page will show one video and Arthur is describing one of his work . Also we have a display with a lot of his art since the beginning of this journey. It will give you an idea of his style and ways he had improved his art.

An important exhibition for Arthur

I want it to let my followers know a little bit about Arthur's journey. A collector from France exhibited two of Arthur's pieces on a gallery in France called Tajan . On February 14 from last year, two of his works were on a public auction in this gallery. Of course Arthur was very happy and mom too.

This is one of Arthur's original painting and it is funny. On each of his pieces he will show you the way he explains his world, he has autism. Of course he is a teenager with great imagination, you can see him smiling when he is drawing, I usually sit with him and share the moment.
On this painting, he is sending his teacher to another Galaxy on a rocket through a time window. Well this inspiration took place after his teacher told him that he could not attend college. Each of his paintings has a story an it will take you on an adventure.

A Brigde to Cross and a Fence to Jump

This is about a walk Arthur must accomplish before he finishes his High School. He was sad and disappointed yesterday, when he found out that he was not going to College, he wants to be an archaeologist, right now he loves to dig and find fossils. I talk to him and make him understand that he has to improve on his spelling, reading and math skills for now, that is what he needs to improve to cross the bridge, at the end of his High School years, we will see if he can jump the fence, which will be all the knowledge required to attend College. At this time he thinks the teachers are thinking on a very negative way. He believes he can do it. I do not know if he will be able to accomplish his goal, but I can not take away his motivation to learn every day. I will keep supporting him. Time will only tell what will happen on his future.

Arthur's trip to the zoo

Last Tuesday a very cold morning Arthur's class was going to a field trip to the zoo. They had a great time and Arthur was very excited to use his first digital camera. He wants me to post some of his favorites pictures.

Arthur Simo 's Art Journey Part 1

Well all begin after Elementary School, Arthur did not handle well this change, going to middle school and facing new school and friends was not an easy task. After six months he needed a change from his environment. At this time Arthur began his art journey with drawing on every page on his notebooks and teachers started complaining about it. A new evaluation was needed it and finally after three months, he was placed in a new school not for too long, because it was far away and transportation never got on time to school, so a new change was taken place for the next year.
Good news for Arthur, he was attending Middle School close home. He attended summer on the new school and it was difficult but with the new teachers and their aids, he did improved and began his new journey. The new curriculum for him included art, he was allowed free time every day to express himself and show his great imagination. At the end of his Middle School he had an art exposition in the library and he won on the Youth Fair a first price.
